TRAVEL | Our First Holiday to Mexico!

I still feel so incredibly lucky to have been able to have the opportunity to have a holiday in Mexico and I thought I’d share my trip with you today!
It feels a little bit surreal to tick Mexico off of my ‘dream destinations’ list. Admittedly, it was quite an expensive holiday for just a week but it was definitely worth it – I loved every minute (even when it rained.. more on that later..).
Kieran and I had been pondering where to go for aaages and we were seriously close to booking Morocco, as in we literally walked into the travel agents to book Morocco and obviously I decided at the last minute that I just wasn’t satisfied – typical girl right? – much to Kieran’s delight..
The lady we saw was really lovely and suggested a couple of options, including Mexico, which at first we thought was out of reach so we explored other options and then went back to Mexico – we managed to get a pretty amazing deal with a £500 online discount, so it was a no brainer really!
One thing I was not at all looking forward to was the 10 hour flight to get there. I hate flying and I’m a very anxious flyer – I think I may do a post with tips I’ve learnt over the years, if anyone is interested? – but to be honest, it wasn’t that bad as we had meals and a TV!

We left early hours of Thursday morning (around 3am) and travelled from Bristol to London Gatwick (flights are way cheaper from London than Bristol or Birmingham..) – you would have seen this on my Instagram stories if you follow me over there – we arrived at the airport around 6am and our flight left at 9.15am. We then arrived 10 hours later in Mexico and the local time was 1.15pm. We finally arrived at our hotel around 5pm and I headed straight for that absolutely gorgeous beach, I just couldn’t resist!
Even though the weather was quite overcast and a little rainy when we arrived, the water still looked beautiful and the beach was to die for. I took so many photos throughout the whole week because I just don’t ever want to forget that view!
We were technically there for six days – due to all of the travelling – the weather was between 28 and 32 degrees everyday, which was super hot! We had three days of sun and two days of rain (unfortunately, it didn’t ruin the holiday though and we did expect it going in hurricane season!) and then one day where the sun kept coming out and going back in again, which we didn’t actually mind because daaamn that sun was hot!

Our hotel room was pretty cute and the air conditioning was welcomed with massively open arms (30 degrees every day gets a bit hot after a while..). The beds were super comfy and the room was a great size. We had a double sink, separate shower and toilet, a wardrobe and a mini bar which housed 4 massive bottles of alcohol that we could have had for free! Whenever we were in our room, we spent most of our time out on the balcony! It was soo nice to just sit out there and read our books or have a chat and just feel the nice warm breeze, which we definitely don’t get in the UK!
The hotel’s food was amazing, neither of us had one bad meal there they were all great. It was an all-inclusive hotel called Riu Playacar in Playa Del Carmen/Riviera Maya and we could not recommend it enough. The hotel staff were amazing and completely accommodating, not to mention super friendly and happy as well! One thing we did notice about the Mexicans is that they are truly lovely and happy, smiley people.

We mainly spent all of our time sunbathing by the pool or on the beach and just generally chilling. My main goal for the holiday was to completely relax and do nothing and it felt soo good.
We did have one day trip planned to Tulum, but I will be doing a separate post on that because I took soo many photos and I didn’t want this post to be too photo heavy! But apart from that we literally did nothing at all and it was pure bliss. We have definitely both recharged our batteries and it feels amazing.

Just to quickly start the end of this post because it’s already long enough, I thought I’d share a couple of the outfits that I wore. I didn’t shoot any outfit posts as I would have liked to, to be honest
I just couldn’t really be bothered and it got dark fairly early in the evening and we didn’t want to cut our beach time short just to take a few outfit photos!
On our first night I wore my gorgeous tile printed bardot maxi dress, it was soo comfy and maxi dresses are perfect to take on holiday!
This baby pink denim frayed hem skirt is my faaave! I’ve been after one of these for soo long and now I finally have one and couldn’t be happier! I paired it with a puffy cotton crop top and some ASOS heeled sandals.
This red dress makes me feel like the red lady emoji! I did have to alter this
one and it was too boob-y for my liking, so my Nannie kindly added a popper so I could contain
my modesty and it worked really well. The material is so light and airy which is perfect for when you’re somewhere humid (like Mexico in October..) – I wouldn’t usually wear something as bright as this, as I hate any attention being on me, but it was too beautiful not to snap up.
I know a lot of people will either love or hate this playsuit, but I love it! I’m really into floaty sleeves right now and I love the tiered effect this one has. These shoes are also my all time faves – I first spotted them on Corrie (dizzybrunette3) and knew I had to have them. They’re perfect for those of you out there who are like me and hate wearing heels.
I will try and link as much as possible below and I really hope everything is still in stock, so I’m really sorry if it isn’t! I will also try and link similar if I can find anything.
So that was basically our awesome holiday in Mexico! Sorry that this post is quite long, I didn’t really want it to be but I can’t help the rambling! In short, we had the best time ever and we will 110% be going back. If you haven’t been to Mexico and really want to go, I’m going to be a massive enabler and say you should book to go – you will never regret it!
We met a lovely couple on the bus transfer to our hotel and the one thing they said to us when we mentioned that it was our first time in Mexico was ‘well it definitely won’t be your last, we don’t know anyone who has been to Mexico once – this is our fourth time here’. It’s safe to say that they are right, we will be back for sure.
Have you ever been to Mexico before? What were your thoughts if you have been?xoxo
