BEAUTY | Nano Teeth Whitening Review

I was recently sent the Nano Intensive Whitening Strips*, keep reading to hear how I got on!

Firstly, I just want to point out that I’m extremely fussy when it comes to anything to do with my teeth. I’m absolutely petrified of the dentist and anything ruining my teeth, so the decision to receive these whitening strips was quite a big one for me and I will be giving my 100% honest opinion.

I personally believe that you shouldn’t mess around with your teeth and if you want them whitened, then you should do so professionally. However, I did read up on these and the ingredients used within these whitening products are all dentist approved – which definitely put my mind at ease, although time will tell when I next visit the dentist as I will be asking my dentist if I have ruined my teeth or not (just call me paranoid..)!

Before Applying

Ok so, I have to admit I did put off opening this package for a few days because I was really panicking about whether or not it was a good idea.. Obviously I decided to go ahead and use these strips, as I was very kindly sent them and I do also want whiter teeth – I would get them done professionally and maybe I will in the future, but for now read: scared of dentist.. – and I’ve always been intrigued by whitening strips.

I was definitely immediately put off by the length of time you have to have these whitening strips on for – 60 minutes!? For me personally, that is quite a long time and I’ve had to fit them into my nightly routine (which has included wearing them whilst doing light exercise in my room, watching TV, having a shower and reading my book!). The time goes quicker if you’re actively doing something, which I find helped me to keep them on for the full hour. It’s also a two week treatment, which again is quite a long period of time, especially when you have to apply them every night. Admittedly, I have skipped two nights (not in a row) due to being home too late to apply them, but I have stuck to a fairly solid routine and given the whitening strips a fair chance.

I used the whitening toothpaste to clean my teeth before applying the whitening strips and then I have been using my normal toothpaste in the morning’s. The toothpaste is a weird thick and gritty texture and doesn’t really have much of a flavour – it’s definitely not minty at all, which is why I stuck to using my normal toothpaste in the morning – but it’s nice to use and I’m sure has helped to whiten my teeth.

Application

The first night’s application was an absolute nightmare! I get quite stressed at the dentist (and orthodontist) because I hate having things restricting my breathing in any way and I also get stressed about choking – yes I am a hypochondriac.. – so applying these to my front teeth on the first night was quite the struggle and ended up quite messy, meaning keeping them on for the whole hour was really hard. Obviously, I tried a different technique on the second night and instead of applying the upper strip first, I applied the lower strip first and then the upper strip after. This definitely helped and I found it easier to keep them on.

I have now completed the full two week’s and I have to say that the last week was much easier than the first week and I finally got the hang of things, which meant I wasn’t bothered about applying them or keeping them in and it was definitely a lot easier. I found drying my teeth on a towel before applying the strips really helpful to keep them stuck down, as the gel does not taste that great (if they do come unstuck)!

A few application tips;

  • Dry your teeth on a towel before applying the strips
  • Apply the lower strip before the upper strip
  • Ensure the strips are evenly stuck down on the front of your teeth, before you fold them around your back teeth
  • Keep your tongue away from the strips (if you can – I struggled with this the first couple of nights)
  • Keep yourself occupied, as this will make the time go quicker
Aftercare

Taking the whitening strips off is probably the worst bit for me, as I hate anything being on my hands – I prefer them to be clean at all times, which is why I hate eating with my hands too and tend to not do it often! – and obviously the gel from the strips gets on your fingers, along with your saliva which I know is gross, but just a head’s up as these strips have obviously been in your mouth! You also have to have a firm grip when pulling these off, as they do stick to your teeth really well.

Once the strips have been gently pulled off, you may have a few areas of your teeth where the sticky residue from the gel is still apparent. This is fine and you will just need to use your toothbrush to get these bits off – I used my electric toothbrush on my teeth for about 30 seconds after taking the strips off. Before using my toothbrush I also swilled my mouth out with water, to get rid of the excess gel.

You may also find that you have a couple little spots on your teeth that are a lot whiter, however these do go down by the morning and your teeth won’t stay like that! This did panic me on the first night, but it’s not permanent so don’t panic.

A few aftercare tips;

  • Use a firm grip to gently peel off the strips
  • Swill your mouth out with water once the strips have been removed
  • Use a toothbrush to remove any sticky residue left over on your teeth
Personal Opinion

I really love how my teeth have subtly become whiter and I will continue to use the whitening toothpaste in the evenings to help with the upkeep of them looking white. I haven’t enjoyed having to keep the strips on for an hour, as it’s a really long time, however it’s definitely worth it for a couple of weeks maybe a few times a year to keep your teeth looking white.

I think the results I’ve got from using these strips have definitely been worth it and I’m really really happy with having whiter teeth. As I now have a routine with these whitening strips, I would definitely purchase them myself the next time I wanted to whiten my teeth.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to whiten your teeth, then these strips won’t be for you. However, if you’re serious about whitening your teeth and would prefer strips that have been dentist approved and a longer period to whiten them over, then the Nano Intensive Whitening Strips* would be absolutely perfect for you.
