FOOD | Cooking with Hello Fresh
I was recently, very generously, sent a box full of food goodies from the lovely people at Hello Fresh!
I’ve always wanted to try one of the Hello Fresh boxes and I was delighted when they contacted me regarding a collaboration!
I was sent three different meals to try and they included a Fragrant Fish Tagine*, a Hoisin Chicken Stir Fry* and a Beef and Pork Picadillo*. I was super excited to try all three of these dishes and if you follow me on Instagram, then you would have seen my boyfriend and I cooking up a storm in the kitchen with these three meals!
Fragrant Fish Tagine with Lemon Cous Cous
This was the dish I was most nervous about, as I’m not a massive lover of fish. However, I love how this box enabled me to try dishes I wouldn’t always go for and I ate this meal with an open mind. I had never heard of the fish included before (Tilapia) but it was quite nice actually – it wasn’t too overpoweringly fish-y, which I really like (even though I eat tuna, makes sense right?) and it worked really well with the dish as a whole. The tagine sauce was really lovely and complimented the fish beautifully. I’ve also always been a fan of cous cous – obviously we couldn’t make it lemon cous cous because I’m intolerant to lemon – but I can imagine it would be even more tasty with the lemon having been added.
Chicken Stir Fry with Red Pepper and Noodles
Everyone loves a good chicken stir fry right?! Especially one without bean sprouts – I was thrilled to see that those horrible things were not included within this dish, I severely dislike them and think they ruin noodles! Anyway, now that little rant is over.. This stir fry was SO yummy. I really loved the sauce and the whole dish was completely full of flavour – it was delicious. I was a little apprehensive about the chicken because the meat was from the thigh rather than the breast, so if I were to make this again I would personally go for the breast of the chicken. Again, that is literally just me being really fussy because I am annoyingly funny about meat.
Beef & Pork Picadillo with Black Bean Rice
Definitely my favourite out of the bunch and I knew it would be as soon as I saw the recipe card! This is pretty much a cross between a Chilli Con Carne and a Spaghetti Bolognese – it’s perfect basically! We didn’t add the lime to our rice, as I’m intolerant, but it still tasted lovely and I really enjoyed the black beans mixed in with the rice. The meat’s in the sauce tasted absolutely wonderful and thinking about it now is making my tummy rumble! The only thing I would personally change about this dish is that I would have used a red pepper rather than a green one – but that’s only because I’m not a huge fan of how bitter the green pepper can be. I will be keeping this recipe card so I can make this dish again – SO good!
I would 1 million per cent order one of these boxes for myself again. I cannot express how quick and easy all of these recipes were to make! If you’re someone who has little time to cook, but really wants to cook healthy and fresh meals that taste delicious and take up no time at all, then I highly recommend purchasing one of these boxes for yourself. You can also receive 50% off of your first two boxes (which is extremely generous!) by using the code HELLOCHARLOTTE at checkout.
