FOOD | An Evening at Aluna, Bristol

An evening at Aluna, Bristol!

Last Friday, I was invited down to Aluna to review their new Autumn menu. As you all know, I love a good restaurant review here on CharsLittleBlog, so I was very excited to share another one.

Firstly, the decor in Aluna is insane! I absolutely love it! It’s definitely a bloggers dream with all of the neon signs. It is fairly dark in here, but I quite like that as it feels more intimate with the person/people you’re having dinner with. There’s a real heavy buzz as soon as you enter the bar/restaurant and I loved it. There’s nothing better, in my mind anyway, than people chatting and laughing. The music that was playing was right up my street too! The whole vibe of Aluna is one that has stuck with me and I’m desperate to head back there with all of my friends soon!

Let’s get on to the food shall we? One word = D E L I C I O U S. Everything is flavoured incredibly well and presented beautifully. We opted for a small selection of dishes, both from the small dishes and plates to share menu.

From the small dishes menu, we decided to go for the Chilli Salt Squid, Spicy Chicken Wings and the Peanut and Coconut Chicken Skewers. Both the squid and chicken wings were very spicy, but so tasty! I don’t usually do spicy food, but I couldn’t stop eating the squid – so good! I would say the chicken skewers were definitely my favourite out of all three dishes, as I adore anything with a peanut sauce. Peanut butter is my jam you guys! The chicken was tender and had the perfect amount of sauce.

As for the plates to share, myself and Kieran decided on just the one – the Aluna Beef Ball Sliders. These little mini burgers were my absolute favourite dish – possibly the best mini burgers I have ever had in my life?! We accompanied these dishes with a portion of rosemary skinny fries and they were super yummy.

I also just quickly want to mention the tableware. There’s nothing better than eating your food and drinking your drink from plates and glasses that feel luxurious. It just adds to the whole experience of eating out! The staff were extremely accommodating too. Our waiter actually helped us decide on our dishes, by recommending what was best. His advice was wonderful and we really appreciated it!

I have done a couple of restaurant reviews now and I would have to say that Aluna was my favourite. If you’ve ever reviewed a restaurant before, you’ll understand how awkward you feel going in and essentially receiving a free meal. It feels unnatural not to pay (it’s a great perk, obviously) but it can be even more awkward if the staff at the restaurant have no idea who you are.. However, as soon as I arrived at Aluna, I was immediately greeted and instantly felt more relaxed. We were also offered one of the larger booth tables, which was amazing and so kind! The assistant manager, Ben, popped over to our table after we had finished eating and ensured we left having had a lovely time.

Overall, the whole experience of eating here at Aluna was amazing. Myself and Kieran had a wonderful night and can’t fault anything. If you live in Bristol or are ever in the area, I highly recommend popping in for a meal, or even just a drink. The drink’s menu is insane. Cocktails are set on fire and some bubble out of cauldrons and have smoke pouring all over the table! Honestly, it was amazing and so theatrical! We’ll be back soon, that’s for sure.
