A Guide To New Years Resolutions: Should You Make Them And Do They Work?

New Year will soon be here, and something lots of people like to do is make resolutions. Making resolutions can seem like a great idea, but some people find that they make them and break them every year, getting the new year off to a rough start. New year’s resolutions can work, but you need to know how to make them the right way. Let’s take a look at how you could look at making new year’s resolutions if you’d like to make a real change in the new year:

Pick Just One Resolution

Focusing on changing one behaviour at a time is the best way to achieve long term success. So, instead of thinking of 10 different things you’d like to change, think of just one. This will make it far more manageable, and you can then move on to the next thing when you believe you have completed this.

Don’t Wait Until The Last Minute

Spend some time considering how you will tackle this behaviour change. A detailed written plan will make it so much easier to deal with in the long run. If you want to improve your health, write out a list of things you can do to do this and how you think you’ll get started. Have everything in place so that you can get started right away.

Start Working Towards Your Goal With Baby Steps

Break down everything so that it’s just a series of baby steps that you have to follow. That’s all your goal is; a series of baby steps that you have to complete. This will make it seem much more manageable and help you to stay on course.

Figure Out What Your Triggers And Limiting Beliefs Are

Everybody has things that can catapult them onto the wrong path, and limiting beliefs that can hold them back from achieving their dreams. By figuring out what yours are, you can work to eradicate them and stop them from getting in your way. Simply knowing what they are can help you. For example, if you believe that you can never be fit and healthy because everybody else in your family is overweight, this is a limiting belief you will need to overcome.

Speak To Somebody You Can Trust

If you think you’ll need help, don’t hesitate to speak to somebody you can trust. Tell somebody you love and they may be able to keep you accountable. They may also help you to find professionals who can help you get onto the right track. ANA Treatment Centre are a rehab centre that could help you if you’re struggling with addiction, for example. The first step is often admitting your problem to somebody close to you.

Find Ways To Stay Motivated

What motivates you? Maybe you could stay motivated by tracking your results, or rewarding yourself when you hit certain milestones.

Start Journaling

Journaling can really help you to sort out your thoughts and feelings, helping you to achieve whatever it is you want. Many people find that consistent journaling helps them to get more clarity, creativity, and enjoy other benefits.
